Movie Premier Coming Up
2 Sept 2007 - From www.teamsouthburnett.com
The Chefs of Team South Burnett are hosting the Kingaroy
opening night of Pixar Animations latest 'gastronomic' blockbuster, Ratatouille.
The movie follows the adventures of a rat named Remy, who dreams of becoming
a great French chef despite his dad's wishes and the problem of being a rat in a
clearly rodent-phobic business.
All at once fate steps in and places Remy in a restaurant made famous by his
hero - Chef Auguste Gusteau.
Though faced with the danger of being an unlikely and unwanted guest in the
kitchen of one of the most chic restaurants in all of Paris, Remy's passion for
cooking soon sets in mtion a side-splitting race that turns the French cooking
world upside down.
The Team South Burnett fundraising movie night will be held at
Kingaroy Satellite Cinema at 6.00pm, Thursday 06th
September. Complimentary Cheese Platters will be available after the
movie, courtesy of our sponsorship partner Kingaroy Cheese.
Tickets are $11.00 per person and are available for purchase

Ford on (07) 4162-7943 or via email |

Wine and Food In The Park Success
12 Mar 2007
A great day was had by all at Memorial Park with about 7000 people
cramming in to enjoy all things food and wine for the annual "Tarong
Coal" Wine and Food In The Park festival. This year may well have been
the most successful year so far, with record amounts of cheese platters
sold on the day at the Kingaroy Cheese stand.
At the culinary competition, local chef Helen Pratt, won with the most
incredible "Dragon Fruit" cheese cake. Helen is head chef at
the
Kingaroy Hotel, so who knows; you might see some interesting things on
the menu at this great country pub.
The culinary competition was judged by Courier Mail "Fossicking"
writer, David Costello and lively Bretts Wharf executive chef Alastair
McLeod. Alastair was a special guest the following day at the Old
Butter Factory, where Cheesemaker Christopher Ganzer hosted a sold out
tour of the cheesemaking facilities and the historical Old Butter
Factory. With the car park full, the many visitors who made
the
trek to the South Burnett, stocked up on regional food and wine before
heading home.

Kingaroy
Cheese to the Grand Dairy Awards
24 Jan 2007:
The Grand Dairy Awards are
going to be held in Melbourne on the 9th Feb and Kingaroy Cheese was
eligible to enter Stuart River Triple
Cream Brie. The actual judging was held in November
last year and while the product I sent was pretty good, you
just never know what the competition is going to be like. Dairy
Australia calls this competition the "best of the best", given that you
have to win a gold medal at a major event during 2006 and the
brie won 3 golds at 4 shows. I always love award
presentations like the Grand Dairy Awards as I never go in
with the expectation of winning anything - that way if someone I know
wins I can go out drinking with them or alternatively they can come
drinking with me if I win. Most of the specialty cheesemakers are small
businesses like Kingaroy Cheese so there is a great fraternity.
I
plan to head out to the Yarra Valley and Milawa to check what is
happening
with Australia's specialty cheese leaders (try and learn a bit
from a food tourism
point of view). For all the doom and gloom that seems to be
talked about in
tourism these days, the holiday period and 2006 for that
matter has actually
been a too bad when you add up the
figures. The South Burnett is making
some good progress with consistency in food and the last couple of wine
vintages have been very good, with 2007 progressing very well. For
those who
thought I was hiding away in Kingaroy in 2006 you were pretty
close to the mark.
2006 was really about getting all the little things right in
production and
distribution and in retrospect it was an excellent year - the least
stressful
by quite some way. Milk quality was great, staff stepped up to
the mark,
finished product quality and yields were outstanding and sales up 60%.
So
on Monday 12th Feb, if I have a hangover, that will not be a true
sign that I may have won anything in Melbourne - but I will let you
know how I went.
